Separate size from position
Mafi describes breast reduction as removing excess breast tissue, fat and skin for a smaller size; its lift service focuses on position and shape. If heavy breasts contribute to discomfort, explain that along with aesthetic goals. If size is satisfactory but drooping is the main issue, say so. These are different starting points for planning.
Ask what each plan would change
ASPS describes reduction as surgery to make breasts smaller and address symptoms associated with size. Ask whether a proposed reduction also includes reshaping and repositioning, and what a lift alone would leave unchanged. Discuss the surgeon's proposed amount of change, incisions and the limits of predicting a final bra size.
Compare documentation and follow-up
Bring a clear history of symptoms and any relevant prior care if relief is part of the goal. Ask about the assessment, facility, recovery, and whether the office can explain any payer documentation process. Coverage is plan-specific and should not be assumed from a procedure name or from someone else's experience.
Questions and answers
Does a lift reduce breast size?
A lift primarily reshapes and raises tissue; ask whether volume reduction is included in the individual plan.
Can reduction also change position?
It commonly involves reshaping, but ask what the surgeon proposes for your case rather than assuming the detail.
